Celebrate Nat King Cole Centennial with John Pizzarelli, guitarist and singer, and his trio at the intimate Jazz Forum club in Tarrytown, NY on September 6-7, 2019

Jazz Forum in Tarrytown, NY presents world-renowned guitarist and singer John Pizzarelli and his trio including Mike Karn on double bass, and Konrad Paszkudzki on piano. The stop at Jazz Forum is part of Pizzarelli’s tour that coincides with the release of his new album For Centennial Reasons: 100 Year Salute to Nat King Cole on Ghostlight Deluxe.

“Nat King Cole is the reason why I do what I do,” comments John Pizzarelli. “The joy that he brought me has never faded and the musicality of his group remains fresh and vibrant to this day.”

Pizzarelli’s annual appearances in New York City at Carlyle and Birdland among other venerated jazz spots are always highly anticipated events for the jazz fans. Embarking on a tour to celebrate the new album, he explains, “The trio has developed and refined these songs and, over time, figured out what we feel have become the definitive versions. Some arrangements, like ‘Route 66,’ have gotten much faster. But ‘Straighten Up and Fly Right,’ which I recorded for my first album way back in 1983, has settled into more of a mellow tone. After all this time, I can slow down and savor it. These songs never get old.”

Virtuoso guitarist Stephane Wrembel and his band, well known among Jazz Manouche aficionados for their devotion to the oeuvre of the legendary Django Reinhardt, team up with a very special guest Bria Skonberg who brings her trumpet and lots of energy to the performances at Joe’s Pub.

Django’s celebrated melodies immediately bring to mind fun times at a smoky French café full of happy musicians and cheerful crowds. Wrembel and his band are notorious in recreating the atmosphere. Add to that the excitement and glee so typical of Skonberg’s style, and the performances will surely be the music fete to remember.

Wrembel and his guests are very familiar to New York audiences for the Django-a-Gogo annual guitar festival among other engagements in town. Bria Skonberg perform regularly in New York City most recently on April 18-29, 2019 at the Gotham Jazz Festival NYC.

Soft melodies of jazz standards performed by a well recognized guitarist and singer John Pizzarelli in the company of an equally renowned jazz singer Jessica Molaskey and Antonio Carlos Jobim’s grandson Daniel Jobim will make for an unforgettable summer night!  The concerts are a celebration of 50 year anniversary of the recording made by Frank Sinatra and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Sinatra frequented a bar in Rio where Jobim had performed regularly, and this was how the timeless collaboration came to life.

An album to honor the anniversary is already released but what can beat the power of live performance at the Birdland?

John Pizzarelli comes from a family of New Jersey swing guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli well known in his own rights and still performing with John and his wife jazz-singer and actress Jessica Molasky. John credits Bucky as his most important teacher guiding his musical and professional career.

In the newly released album Pizzarelli masterly mixes the songs on the original recording done by Sinatra and Jobim in 1967 with those that were not included on it. That original album had “transported Brazilian music into stratospheric heights where it remains to the present day” in the words of Nick Catalano from AllAboutJazz.com.

The master of romantic ballades and sensible interpretation of classical tunes, Pizzarelli’s return to Birdland is highly anticipated. The audiences know his gentle sense of humor and warmth of his music. Its no wonder that “@50” album is described in The Times  as  “sentimental rather than slavish” with the “songs that weren’t on the Sinatra album coming off best”. You will enjoy Bossa Nova classics like Girl from Ipanema and many more.

With a program of chamber music heavily influenced by the genius of Vivaldi, this concert on July Sunday afternoon is promising to be a meditation on the past with classical guitar, bandoneon, violin and a chamber orchestra serenading the summer.

Jason Vieaux, a winner of 2015 Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Solo, is returning to Caramoor with Julien Labro on bandoneon and Krista Benin Fenney on violin. Vieaux’s impeccable technique and musicality “makes the guitar sing” in the words of Tom Huizenga, NPR host. From the beginning of Vieaux’s engagement with the NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series when he was young-artist-in-residence, his mastery have flourished adding on a diverse sound palette of West-African rhythms, Argentinian tangos and classical preludes. On his return to the Tiny Desk Concert studio as a renown international musician seven years later, his music had transformed the studio into “a quiet, jasmine-scented garden in Andalusia” as described by Huizenga.

Julien Labro is a well-known accordionist whose music blends folk and classical melodies into an eclectic and rich mix. In the course of his career Labro’s main influence was the music of an Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla. According to Labro’s autobiography, Piazzolla was the reason for Labro to pick up a bandoneon. Sharing this affection, Vieaux and Labro had already recorded 7 albums on the music by Piazzolla with the most recent one Infusion by Azica produced in 2016.
