David Miller, an American lyric tenor born in Littleton, CO, was studying music from an early age. He is a graduate of Oberlin Conservatory in Oberlin, OH with a degree in Vocal Performance and Opera. After graduation, Millers was performing leading roles in Pittsburg Opera as well as at the renown opera houses and theaters in America, Australia, and Europe. He was approached to join Il Divo right at the time when he was about to start appearing on the Metropolitan Opera stage in 2004. He is successfully performing with the rest of the group members from that time on.
Carlos Marin is a Spanish lyric singer, who was raised in Germany. His music career started very early when at the age of eight he released his first album in Germany. With a pretty wide voice range from low register baritone to the dramatic high of tenor, he studied at Superior Conservatory of Madrid with the great maestro Alfredo Kraus and late Montserrat Caballe. By the early 1990s, Marin was already a star in Spain. Since signing with Il Divo from 2004, he combines tours with the group with solo concerts.
Urs Buhler is a Swiss lyric tenor and a composer. While being a devoted rock fan and a member of the metal rock group in his teenage years, his interest in classical music came later. He graduated with a degree in Music Education and Voice Studies in Switzerland and got his Master’s in Classical Music from Amsterdam Conservatory. Before joining Il Divo he was actively performing at European Opera houses.
Sebastien Izambard is a French singer, composer, musician, and record producer. His voice is a recognizable soul-pop of the group. He is a self-taught guitar player and singer. His name is well-renowned in France for his debut album “Libre” released by EMI Music France in 2000. The album reached the top rank that year. While working prolifically in theater and on his second album, Izambard met Carlos Marin who told him about auditioning for Il Divo group. The rest is now history.
Il Divo is credited with inventing the crossover genre. It had released 10 albums and sold 30 million records. The group has a dedicated following of over 2 million fans around the world. Even though most of the group members are professionally trained opera singers, their programs tend to divert from the classical repertoire delighting the audiences with time-honored melodic standards. As The Guardian notes “you cannot accuse Il Divo of doing a disservice to opera: in fact, they serve it very well by avoiding it altogether”.
The night promises a dreamy swooning, familiar melodies, well-produced arrangements and robust singing. What can be more relaxing on Saturday night?
